Lake Dalrymple has been a favourite destination of anglers for more sunsetthan 100 years, especially those in search of the elusive Muskie.

Today, the main catch is bass; northern pike are plentiful and pickerel, perch and crappie round out the assortment. Our fishing map will help you locate the fish you are looking for.

travel pic2Avery Point is a finger of land that divides lower Lake Dalrymple into two parts.  One side, with its rocky shoreline and westerly breeze is a cool spot on even the hottest summer day. The other side with calm water sheltered from the breeze and sandy beach, is a hub of summer cottage life. There is lake frontage on front and back and it is just wide enough to accommodate a single row of cottages along the entire length. The point is a quiet cottage community

Nature Reserves:

flower2psThe entrance to the Prairie Smoke Alvar Nature Reserve is at the south end of Lake Dalrymple Road. This 700 acre property is part of a network of nature reserves encompassing nearly 8,000 acres. These reserves have been established for protection of the many declining grassland bird species, and the preservation rare alvar habitat and plant species. The Prairie Smoke is open to the public.

Geologically:

Lake Dalrymple is finger lake formed in the last ice age by retreating glaciers. It is an unusual example of southern Ontario lakes in that it is on a lime stone base at the south end and the granite bedrock of the Canadian Shield at the north. Southern Lake Dalrymple (Upper Lake Dalrymple) is spring fed, in late stage, and on a limestone base. It is gradually silting in, and is quite marshy in areas. Granite outcroppings of the Canadian Shield form the shoreline at the north end of lower Lake Dalrymple where it drains into the Black River. Local Road Map
