The Village of Kinmount is situated on the Burnt River in the Northern reaches of the City of Kawartha Lakes. Settlement of the area commences in the 1850's and Kinmount became a bustling hub of the local forestry industry. Today the population is approximately 500 and the main industry is tourism.
It is impossible not to be captivated by the charm of the village while visiting on a summers day. The streets are busy with tourists browsing through the many shops catering to tourists. The local artisan community is very much in evidence with a number of artisan shops lining the streets and a year round Artisan Marketplace offering a wide variety of locallly produced hand crafted items in the lower level of the community centre.
Kinmount is known throughout the Province of Ontario and beyond for the Kinmount Fall Fair that attracts a large crowd every September. It is a truly grand event for such a small community. The Highland Theatre a venue for first-rin movies is a major draw for the many cottagers from the surrounding area. It also houses an interesting movie poster and equipment museum.
